It's that time of year: holiday parties, winter balls, theater season,
company dinners, Diskens Fair, New Years Eve, cocktail parties,12th
Night. You might even be planning a sojourn to a balmy tropical
locale. Whatever the reason, h-costumers are probably making
something. So, what's your dressmaker's dummy wearing today?

PS. It's ok to run into the sewing room, toss something marvelous on
the dummy and *then* tell us about it. It's also ok to tell what's on
your design sketchbook, worktable, at the sewing machine or in the
embroidery hoop.

Re: [h-cost] Low Rise Issue

2008-05-23 Thread needlethread96
(delurking) I find making most of daughters clothes is the easier option than
taking a bad tempered 6 year old around the shops trying on clothes.? Like
myself, she finds?choosing fabric is much more fun!? As for shoe shopping with
her, I only wish I could make her shoes as well...!

All the best
Jayne (lurking again!)

I thought about it, but I really don't want to spend my sewing time on that if
I
don't have too. I used to be the person who said: Oh, I can make that - don't
need to buy it. Then one of my costume buddies, straightened me out! She
said
always buy what you can and make what you can't - it was a whole new
perspective
for me!

Re: [h-cost] Busy making holiday gifts?

2007-11-25 Thread needlethread96
I'm handsewing some baby doll clothes from the 1960's, from?the Simplicity
recent re-issues for my daughters Christmas box (or should that be huge
stocking?!).? Handsewing them because I am doing jury service, and most of the
time is spent waiting around.?

Dear list,
Since the traffic has been light, and we assume people are busy, I'll kick
off with, are you busy making holiday gifts?

I'm making dresses for my granddaughters--I was inspired by some very
expensive dresses in an upscale children's shop in Las Vegas--I can make
something
like that, I said. Well, the original intent was to use what was in my
stash, but one of the pieces of fabric was so badly off grain (it has a
printed

design) that I just couldn't use it, and what I bought instead didn't match
color-wise, and I didn't have enough of another; so, after my 4th trip to
JoAnn's this afternoon, I'll be about done. But I do have enough trims in my
stash, and some usable fabrics. The dresses have a print bodice, solid white
skirt, and dark solid sleeves--one is navy blue, one red. The skirt has three
rows of assorted trim in white and the color, the sleeve has another white
trim

around the edge, and each also has yet another trim around the neckline.
The red and white one is almost done and is shaping up nicely. The navy
bodice

is done, but the 4th trip to JoAnn's is for skirt fabric for it.

After this, I'm done sewing again for a while.

Re: [h-cost] What's your dressmakers dummy wearing?

2007-10-06 Thread needlethread96

Hi!

Many apologies with being late in replying, but I don't check my e-mails as
much as I should!? My dressmakers dummy is currently wearing a white faux fur
Russian hat edged in pearls.? No current project on the go, as I am taking my
daughter to Disneyland Paris soon, and too busy with an over-exicted 5 year old
under my feet!

With Regards
Jayne

Hi!
Sorry to be a bit behind with this (and non-historical!), but my child size
dummy is wearing a plum coloured circle skirt with a pink ribbon trim. It is
part of a cheerleading outfit that I promised my daughter for doing well in the
majorette/cheerleading competition she recently took part in.
