Being able to see this picture up close helped me immensly on the
construction of the headpiece I am trying to make....thought you

So, are you using the silk for the embroidery part? One of the
things I have found with silk, from the Chinese, is that they sew a
tiny x with the silk floss, and then run the needle under the x and
tighten it slightly to knot the end. To start, they sew the x over
the tail of the silk thread. I usually cover my knots with
subsequent embroidery. This pattern seems to be more open, so that
might not be possible, but it's how I get my silk to never work free.
If that doesn't make sense, I'll try to find some pictures of what
I'm talking about.
