For some, Dickens Fair just opened.
I'm working on a not-in-mourning bonnet for Dickens, for when I'm not
playing Mrs. Nickleby.(who's in mourning) Got to finish by next week's
caroling gig. I got a felt bonnet blank and trimmed it down by 2.
And-Serendipity!_ the trimmed piece will work perfectly for the crescent
part of a French hood (better than plastic canvas)

Most of my sewing this winter is not costumes, though I did pick up
Vogue 8407 which has a number of cute purses and wallets. The rest of my

I'm still trying to finish up a bodice and bits and pieces for the Great
Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco, even though we opened last weekend.
Once those are complete, I need to make something elegant for my husband's
company's Christmas dinner, a 1950's nylon crinoline petticoat and the steel
grey taffeta skirt to go over it (see, it is costuming). I need to put the
petticoat onto a new waistband and cut and whomp up the skirt. And then
there's the Christmas presents I'm finishing for my family (not costuming) I
pick up whenever my hands are at rest.

I am still stuck on finishing off a silk Elizabethan loose gown that I can't
seem to finish. I've got some pretty trim cord that looks better than what I
was trying to add, so hopefully it will get done by the end of the year.

I am still plugging away on embroidering the blackwork pattern all over linen
to be made into a partlet... it's a long term project

Otherwise, I'm in hibernation mode trying to figure out what to work on next,
which may be pajamas made from a Folkwear pattern of a Regency dress.

The only sewing I've been doing is repair work on a dress for
Sutter's Fort (which I still need to finish). I spent much of today
helping a friend by taking her to the hospital for (planned) surgery,
waiting with her as she signed lots of papers, had an IV installed,
and until she was wheeled off to the surgical theater just before
noon, then calling her family and friends to keep them informed of
what was going on. Thank G-d she is in her room, resting comfortably
(well, as comfortable as one can be after abdominal surgery). I'll
be going to her place each day she is in the hospital to take care of
her cats. She asked everyone to hold off on calling her until
Sunday. So that's what I've been up to.
