I had two historical romances published back in the 70s (when it was comparatively easy to find a market). The first had a lovely cover illustration which portrayed the lead characters just as I imagined them (whether by accident or design, I don't know). The second had a horrible cover, in which the male figure had apparently been copied from a magazine photo of a reenactor and didn't even have the right hair colour.
