You did, but gmail hides your own mail until someone else replies to
it. Which makes sense to me but irritates many people.

Just a thought. Have you tried accessing your Gmail from an IMAP
client? May be worth a try.

Having just caught up with the dialogue it looks as if there are still
vacancies. I am willing to stand as a general officer and muck in where I
can.
So, here's a name to start with. See you in December.
Cheers

Agreed. And, like Chris, I'll help out wherever I can; but for the last 18
months or so, I have just been too busy with other things.
I dont partake in many of the LUGs, not as much as I'd like, but I'd be up for

I'll describe this as best I can - hoping someone knows a workaround -
easier than googling.
I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 (Ocelot somethingorother). The default

Only problem has been an apparently sharp decline in battery life; it
indicates about 3½ hours when switched on fully charged but soon shows a
lot less, never runs more than an hour now.
Is this a *change* in behaviour?
If so, it's probably a battery dying.
Any thoughts welcomed.
What do

Seriously, I tried it (Ubuntu 11.10) twice on my desktop and simply

Thank you, Vic.
Yes it was a change in behaviour.
I've unplugged and plugged the battery a dozen times and after three
quarters of an hour on battery operation it still showed 4:57 left.
After an hour it's now down to 0:27.

Having an e-mail account cull was what made me move my lug mail to gmail
in the first place, in the last 12 months I have ceased 4 e-mail

I went in quite the opposite direction; I have over 3500 email addresses

Dead battery, then. It happens.

It might be somewhere else on your distro - have a dig around /proc/acpi .
It's an interesting part of the filesystem :-)

Vic the spam king then ;-)
Nope. SpamAssassin does a fine job of keeping me largely spam-free.
Rejecting forged addresses has a significant effect, too...
