I think you should check out novatech, who are local and much more forgiving with what you do or don't install. Plus, they are much more likely to know which laptops can have Linux installed without any secureboot fuss. The price is also cheaper if you buy without an OS installed, so you can just

Any hardware and books that aren't wanted by others would probably be welcomed by Southampton Makerspace[1]; we can't promise to be a good home but it's better than sending them to the dump. If we can't find a use for them directly (for their intended purpose) then we'll try and take them apart
