Fundraising Overview

The workshop is for people who wish to move into fundraising, have just started
in fundraising, have responsibilities for fundraisers or who are in fundraising
and want to know whether they could be doing it better.

We examine each of the different areas of fundraising – public donors, major
donors, legacies, trusts and corporates. We explain how the different areas fit
together and support each other to create a balanced fundraising effort.

We look at how much investment each area of fundraising requires, what returns
to expect and how long it is likely to take to achieve those returns. We
examine what the rest of your organisation could be doing to help make your
fundraising more successful.

Finding & Researching Trusts
The workshop teaches where to find trusts and foundations to apply to. We look
at all the various sources of information, compare the pros and cons and
examine the costs involved in accessing each of them.

We look at how to identify whether or not to apply to a particular trust. We
examine how to prepare a target list of trusts to apply to.

We look at how to realistically assess your likely chances of success. We
explore how best to store and utilise the details you research about each trust.

Donor Databases
The workshop is about creating and using databases to record information about
your public donors, major donors, corporate donors, legacy pledgers, trusts and
foundations.

We compare the online and offline options available from zero cost and low cost
through to the ones costing tens of thousands of pounds per year. In addition
to the outright cost we also examine the cost of lost productivity if you use
systems too limited for your needs or alternatively systems that are too
elaborate for the tasks you are carrying out.

In addition to assessing standardised off the shelf systems we also look at how
to create your own bespoke database using the new low cost, user friendly
database creation tools.

Fundraising Regulations
The workshop looks at who the regulatory bodies are and what they regulate. We
look at each of the most important regulations and procedures to follow.

We examine past enforcement actions and the penalties issued to organisations
that broke the rules. We look at GDPR, PECR and the other regulations governing
fundraising activities. We look at how to prepare a check list of points you
need to ensure that your organisation follows.

We look at how best to explain the regulations throughout your organisation and
ensure that they are followed by staff, trustees, volunteers and supporters.

Feedback From Past Attendees
I must say I was really impressed with the course and the content. My knowledge
and confidence has increased hugely. I got a lot from your course and a lot of
pointers!
I can say after years of fundraising I learnt so much from your bid writing
course. It was a very informative day and for someone who has not written bids
before I am definitely more confident to get involved with them.
I found the workshops very helpful. It is a whole new area for me but the
information you imparted has given me a lot of confidence with the direction I
need to take and for that I am very grateful.
I found the day very informative and it gave me confidence to take on this
aspect of work that I had been apprehensive of. I enjoyed the session and
found it valuable.
So much relevant, practical information all passed on in a way which I was able
to follow. All greatly enhanced by your sense of humour.
It was a useful course and your examples real or otherwise helped to make it
practical. Many thanks. The morning just flew by - always a good sign! I
enjoyed the course and learnt a lot. I will begin putting this into practice.
