** CUBA. 6165, Jan 11 at 0659 just as I tune in RHC, English program intro is
abruptly cut to Spanish historical promo past 0700, and same on 6060, 6000
briefly, while 5040 is open carrier. Last to go off is 6000 at 0703*.

Meanwhile, at 0701, only 6100 is starting the weekly Sunday Esperanto broadcast
as scheduled (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. Finally a half-decent winter sporadic-E opening, as the analog TV
era in Mexico has less than a year left. January 11 opening is in progress as I
turn on and tune in, antenna still stuck at southward, all times UT:

1438 on 2, Azteca 7 bug in UR, animation fades in and out, video only. Probably
usual XHTAU Tampico, Tamaulipas.

1617 on 2, fade-in some more after more than a sesquihour of snow, A&V, Spanish
about Veracruz, SCT promotion for Puerto de Veracruz. Perhaps live, says there
has been a 4.0 sismo (earthquake) there. Captions to the news items include a
logo that looks like API TV, not at all sure of the letters. Anyhow, it must be
XHFM in Veracruz.

1634 on 2, still some CCI, and trace until 1700 or so. Meanwhile, 6-m Es maps
show some skip has moved from southern US to eastern US.

1900-2100 UT roughly, not checked

UT January 12:

0230 on 2, Spanish CCI, also some on 4

0240 on 5, MUF up to here some video, and 4 with music

0248 on 4, seems music video show, video squeezed, YL VJ between them, a little
bug in the UR I can`t make out. 0250 mentions Xalapa, which is also in Veracruz

0249 on 5, news in Spanish, continuous crawler abottom; large square bug in LR
with complicated design in it. I do believe it`s XHAJ Las Lajas, Veracruz as
per Danny`s logo reference

0256 on 4, now behind the VJ can make out program title (?) PLAY LIST, and soon
a TV MAS ID; 0257 shows VERACRUZ. So it`s XHGV, Las Lajas too

6m Es maps now have the opening centered over SE TX, which is a bit too far
east for Vcz to OK

0302 on 6, video MUF up to here with new TRECE bug in UR (just the word, rather
than the old Azteca swishes; Danny still hasn`t updated his national logos
since 2013 to show this). Close-up of singers wielding hand mikes. Per
W9WI.com, the closest 13s on 6 to Veracruz are XHPUR, 100 kW in Puebla, Puebla;
and XHVHT, 24.31 kW in Villahermosa, Tabasco. The 6m Es map would favor the
latter

0312 on 88.1 rock music fades in for a minute or so, and out

0316 on 5, Televisa 5 bug in LR; could be XHGC itself, but there are lots of
others like XHZ in Zamorano, Querétaro

0330 opening fading, still some CCI on 2 and traces another semihour

** U S A. Re: ``1190, Jan 11 at 0218 UT, Rosary in English briefly overcomes
the QRM, from NE/SW, so surely the recent acquisition by EWTN in Kansas City
MO, KPHN, 5000/500 watts.``

Later: I search radio-locator.com on KPHN as I want to see whether their map
puts the transmitter site in KS or MO, but what comes up? 1360 in El Dorado KS!
It is another EWTN station, but call there has been KAHS, per NRC AM Log. It`s
just NE of Wichita. To confuse matters further, station`s address is in Tulsa
OK!! What happens if I search radio-locator.com on KAHS? I get KAHS-LP FM in
Aberdeen WA 106.5!

Bringing up their full list of KC MO stations, we find that 1190 is now KDMR.
That nighttime coverage map cross is SE of KC, i.e. in MO.

FCC AM Query agrees that the call of 1360 El Dorado is now KPHN, since last
August 14, so that change just missed the editorial deadline for the 2014-2015
NRC AM log. And on the same date, 1190 changed from KPHN to KDMR. One wonders,
why bother, and what significance each call has to the Catholic Radio Network
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1540, Jan 11 at 0706 UT, something mixing with KEDA, in English,
ID sounds like ``America`s Best Music on 1540 KWHN Radio``. But letters must be
only fuzzily similar. ABM is a Westwood One syndicated format. Most similar
call is KDYN in Ozark AR, 500/1 watt, but I can`t find a format match on their
website http://www.kdyn.com where it`s apparently a duplicate of True Country
92.7 KLYR.

Googling for other ABM`s on 1540 leads to KBOA Kennett MO, 1000/1 watt; and
WBCO in Bucyrus OH, 500 watt daytimer. KBOA brands itself as Music of Your
Life, which is close to ABM, in case there has been a change. WBCO website
http://wbco.com does not use either brand, but the music format fits (Glenn
