** BRAZIL. 11814 & 11746, Jan 7 at 0618, crackling spurs from 11780.1v, RNA/RNB
are audible; but not 24 hours later (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15370, Jan 6 at 1430, RHC VG signal but modulation is breaking up
during IS, and also during news sounder. S meter dips but the carrier does not
cut off completely. Wiggle that patchcord? Short in the antenna array? 17730
continues to be AWOL at 1505 check Jan 6, despite per own sked being allegedly
on air until 1600 toward Rio de Janeiro (BTW, if you`re going to pronounce
Janeiro as if it were a Spanish word, you might as well change it to Enero! But
you never hear that altho the other megacity is casually rendered into Spanish
as San Pablo.) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9905, Jan 7 at 0615, R. Cairo is open carrier/dead air, fair with
flutter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** FRANCE. 7390, Jan 8 at 0639, RFI in French is below a stronger open carrier,
making fast SAH. I wish some Europeans or at least Eastern Hemispherians would
check this out, as I have had two carriers on here before, my hypothesis being
that Issoudun is messing up, leaving a second transmitter on the frequency,
QRMing itself. Or Albania, not supposed to be on 7390 until 0800? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also FRANCE [non]!

** FRANCE [non]. (9395), Jan 8 at 0600 I make a point of monitoring R. France
International at the first English opportunity on SW following the terrorist
attack on Charlie Hebdo which was about 18 hours earlier --- but RFI has no
commitment to 24-hour service in French, much less English. Tnx anyway to
Global 24 for relaying this hour, but 9395 is inaudible tonight beyond a JBA
carrier with K-index of 4, so back to its webcast.

Axually I tuned in a few minutes before 0600 and may have been RFI already
instead of Vatican, but that station also about Topic-A did not get a chance to
ID before the G24 TOH break. This was indeed the main story during the first 20
minutes or RFI before straying into stupid ballgames and stuff about Africa,
but I`m afraid I didn`t learn anything new, after a full day of wall-to-wall
coverage on US cable TV news networks (not that I watched all of that, but
every time I checked, NOTHING ELSE MATTERED, anywhere in the world.)

[Also, I am appalled by the gross ignorance of basic French language some US
reporters and anchors, even sporting PhD`s, revealed when suddenly called upon
to pronounce words like:

François, as in Hollande, turning him into a YL: ``Françoise`` heard more than
once
Reims: ``Reems``??
Hebdo: ``Hedbo``, or ``Hebdoo``]
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 5910, Jan 8 at 1336 I turn on the FRG-7 which had been
getting HJDH until 0645, and here`s Shiokaze, but this Thursday it`s not in
English, but Chinese, with typical piano riffs. Hold on, let`s not assume there
has been a permanent schedule change or English eliminated, as it may be just
another anomaly. Also it`s about time for an abrupt change to an alternate
frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 9400, Jan 7 at 1427, Denge Kurdistan in open carrier/dead
air, yet a stronger signal now than 9395 Global 24 with NHK relay; by 1445
recheck, DK is back to ululating, still stronger than WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RWANDA. 15275 & 17800, Jan 8 at 1848, VG signals in Hausa from DW relay sked
18-19 UT, 310 and 295 degrees respectively, with 17800 stronger, just as good
if not better (and better modulated) than the only two other signals on 16m,
17775 KVOH and 17790 WRMI. Furthermore, 15275 is essentially the only non-North
American audible on 19m, except for a poor 15580, VOA Botswana at 350 degrees.

This demonstrates what great use could be made of the Kigali relay by any SW
broadcaster who cared enough to reach North America any more (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 5850, Jan 6 at 0715, Brother Scare is still here via
WRMI, after TruNews finishes at 0700. And now 5850 is good, much better than
via // 5890 WWCR. WRMI has the skip zone advantage, at this later hour with
half-as-far WWCR overskipping, if propagating anywhere. Latest WRMI sked shows
BS on *only* 5 frequencies in the 07-10 UT period, the others being 7570, 9955,
11580, 15770 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1754 monitoring: confirmed on webcast of WRN to North
America at additional new time of 0230 UT Monday January 5; a direct link is
updated on our http://www.worldofradio.com/radiosked ----
http://shoutcast.wrn.org:8000/listen.pls
Also applicable to Saturday 1830

Confirmed Tuesday Jan 6 after 1200 on WRMI 9955, a time I am rarely awake to do
so, but it` JBA (and so is G24 on 9395) --- yet RHC is VG on 9850, why? Habana
is only slightly further than Okeechobee and several degrees further south in
azimuth.

Confirmed UT Wednesday Jan 7 after 0401 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395, fair-good.
This is part of the Tuesday evening ``DX block`` but which I don`t have time to
monitor straight thru. I did check at 0232 and heard `Feature Story News`
instead as filler until 0236 when the less-than-semihour `RAIN Report` of ham
news started, first about Bill Pasternak being home from hospitalization after
an accident; GWQ!

Confirmed Wednesday Jan 7 at 1415 on WRMI 9955; also Wed Jan 7 at 2200 on
webcast of WBCQ, but 7490 too weak to hear vs noise level; also Wed Jan 7 at
2201 on Global 24 webcast, while very poor on WRMI 9395.

WORLD OF RADIO 1755 monitoring: confirmed on first SW broadcast, UT Thursday
Jan 8 at 0430 on WRMI 9955 which is JBA, but VG on webcast (meanwhile 9395 G24
is inaudible).

1755 also confirmed after 1330 Thursday Jan 8 on WRMI 9955, accompanied by
pulse jamming at 1339, just as I am talking about Cuba 3365/4765. Tnx a lot,
Arnie! Next:

** U S A. 9395, Thu Jan 8 at 1345, Global 24 via WRMI, with `Democracy Now` in
progress, Amy Goodman with items about Missouri grand jury, Cuomo, Charlie
right up until 1400 `Upstate Radio Theatre`. Did not check today whether DN
repeated at 1500. Poor signal, weaker than ACI from 9400 KURDISTAN, q.v. on
another date (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9930, Jan 7 at 1415, VG signal with classic rock music, no doubt
WTWW-2 with Ted`s latest filler-programming idea; more of it 24 hours later Jan
8. Per Aoki, fellow gospel-huxter T8WH Palau uses 9930 only on Sundays until
1500 when there would be a conflict (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 21460, Jan 8 at 1444, huge open carrier until off at 1445*; while
Saudi 21505 and Kuwait 21540 are only poor. Has got to be an eastern US site,
WHRI, GB, or WRMI. I seem to recall that 21460 was once a YFR frequency (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
