2 or 3 nights in the last week I heard WKBA 1550 Vinton VA on well after
sunset, pretty close to 11pm or so each night. The english preaching is
real easy to pick out of the mush with french CBEF 1550 Windsor, Ontario.

I sent an email to the station and below is my email to them and their
response. I guess a power outage and remote transmitter control went stupid
:)

Hello Mr. Walker,

Yes, you heard us. No, you weren’t supposed to because we are a daytimer.
We use a Sine Systems unit to turn the xmtr on and off. We had a power
failure which reset the Sine Systems date and time. I have it on a fairly
new UPS, and that unit doesn’t draw much power. I think the power was off
about 6 hours.

I have a local lady working at the station, and she is supposed to check
the system for correct time and date, and obviously she did not do this. I
am going to have to start doing this myself, because we are vigilant in
operating the station within our licensed parameters.

If I could run full power at night, that would make me a few bucks. J But
that is never going to happen. I had a consulting engineer study the
situation, and there is no way we can get any power at night. We did file
for translator in the recent window, so I am hoping we don’t have to go to
auction over that.

I do thank you for the email, you did save me from some trouble.

Greetings,

I am writing to you from Warren, Pennsylvania (We're 90 minutes eats of
Erie and 20-25 minutes south of Jamestown, New York)

I'm writing because I've picked up your radio station three times in the
last week. Normally at my location, I hear CBEF 1550 Windsor
Ontario/Detroit, Michigan broadcasting in French.

I was excited to hear a new station... and the first time I heard it, I
quickly heard a "The Ministry Station", so I googled that, found your
website and look up some technical stuff on your station.

It would appear that WKBA is a 10,000 watt daytime only sunrise to sunset
station, correct? Each of the times I've heard WKBA, it was well after
sunset, in fact nearly 11pm or so each time.

Is there a malfunction that's caused WKBA to not sign off at sunset or do
you have some miniscule night time power?

I am not criticizing, just asking.. because I've worked for AM radio
stations whos remote control malfunctioned and would occasionally not shut
the transmitter off.

Warmest Regards,

Paul walker
