6000 BULGARIA, R. Varna heard at 01.08 on 20 Oct. with some pop and
orchestral music, shipping news, and weather in Bulgarian. Several station
Ids in a 30 minute period. Fair signals with moderate QSB

9870 INDIA, AIR Bengaluru (Bangalore) heard at 17.25 on 20 Oct. with
subcontinental mx, station IDs and not much else between songs until s/off
at 17.40. Site is also known as Vividh Bharati, and address includes the
line: Super Power Transmitters! Listed as 500kW. Good signal but with some
deep fading.

11786 INDONESIA, VoI, heard in Indonesian at 16:38 on 20 Oct. with really
beautiful south seas music and DJ patter. Into AR program at 17.00. EiBi
lists both programs an hour earlier. May be a change in schedule. Banging
signal here but got progressively worse after 17.20.

I'm kinda happy with Varna, and VoI was an interesting catch as well. It's
been a few years since I have heard them.

Bolivia, 6155.30, Radio Fides, 0912-0930, Male with steady Spanish
language comments. Heard the place name "Santa Cruz" often. Following
the initial comments, the rest of the Spanish comments seemed to be
political. Others join the commotion including a couple of females as the
comments continued. Signal did not improve enough for ID, but remained
poor. (Chuck Bolland, October 21, 2008)

Bolivia, 6134.35, Radio Santa Cruz, 0927-0935 Noted a male in
Spanish language news. Checked this just to make sure the above logging
on 6155.30 wasn't actually this station Santa Cruz, and it wasn't.
"5 en manana y 28 minutos". This was follow with music. Very good
signal this morning. (Chuck Bolland, October 21, 2008)

Philippines, 9615, Radio Veritas Asia, 1040-1050 Initially noted a male
and female in Chinese language comments. Some music interspersed as
an accent. At 1045, a second male comments. All the comments are
probably religious? No interference noted from Firedrake which was expected
though. Signal was good. (Chuck Bolland, October 21, 2008)

Indonesia, 9680, RRI Jakarta, 1051-1100, With a male in Indonesian language
comments, noted a program music and live comments.
Signal remained at a good level during the listening period. (Chuck Bolland,

THE SHADOW FACTORY, James Bamford - Brief Review

    * Format: Hardcover, 416 pages
    * On Sale: October 14, 2008
    * Price: $27.95

James Bamford exposed the existence of the top-secret National Security
Agency in the bestselling The Puzzle Palace and continued to probe into
its workings in his follow-up bestseller, Body of Secrets. Now Bamford
discloses inside, often shocking information about the transformation of
the NSA in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of 2001.

In THE SHADOW FACTORY, Bamford shows how the NSA's failure to detect the
presence of two of the 9/11 hijackers inside the United States led the
NSA to abandon its long-held policy of spying only on enemies outside
the country. With unrivaled access to sources and documents, Bamford
details how the agency has conducted domestic surveillance without court
approval, and he frames it in the context of the NSA's ongoing hunt for
information about t

Mediumwave, you say?

540 PAKISTAN, PBC Peshawar heard at 17.17 on 21 Oct. with news and
commentary by man and woman as well as modern and easy-listening music. Not
sure of language since this is the tribal area service. 300kW, but only
fair signals.

650 UNID, Poss.TAJIKISTAN off freq, poss. VoA Relay, (nominally 648) with 2
YL and one OM in discussion heard at 18.10 on 21 Oct in unid lang.
Ridiculous echo on audio with second speech pattern trailing by less than a
second making for very difficult copy. This was a technical problem and not
propagation. Fair sigs with severe QSB and a deep fade. 2kHz off freq. is
Tajikistan! Russia not sked'ed during this time period.....

1422 CHINA, CNR8 Voice of the Minorities, heard 22 Oct. 00.28 in Mandarin
with commercials and PSA's into time pips and ID at the top of the hour.
Makes it through the mountains with a good signal at 600kW

1539 UAE, VoA relay in Urdu with pop music at 01.18 on 22 Oct. Still
strong at daybreak!

As soon as I find/build a suitable power supply for my Palstar MW550, you'll
see mo' better mediumwave logs from me. Just for the record, Palstar sent
one that was 110 volts, and they did not know where I was since it went to a
forwarding place in Florida.

Me
gustar?a tambi?n hacer un programa DX de la misma manera que nuestro muy
cari?oso Jos? Elias Dias en el estado venezolano Anzo?tegu? haga Sinton?a DX
"L'Aventure Jusqu'Au Bout Du Monde" con WORLD MUSIC (Nhac Viet, ra?, zouk,
kompas, joropo, cumbia, tecnocumbia, vallenato, pasillos, etc.) y comentarios
