Re: [HCDX] [irca] AM Radio In Alaska
Paul, I wonder if a 4-foot box loop (box not spiral, i.e. the NRC design) would let you null that offending station? You should be able to do that using a combination of rotation in azimuth and tilting in elevation, then back and forth to get the null deep enough to take them out. Back when I had strong locals I was able to do that using that loop. You ahve to be careful to get the loop balance just right. That's not hard to do if you follow the directions. And then you get a good really deep null. It might be worth a try and you'd have another tool. Have you tried tilting and rotating the FSL at all? Assuming the internal loopstick on the portable doesn't get any of the offending station. Otherwise nulling is harder. I would think that would work the same way an air-core loop does. I know the ferrite bar loops I built back in the day worked that way. ** AUSTRALIA. 2368.5, Jan 22 circa 1845, no signal from R. Symban into NSW SDR; it`s the Greek ethnic station which used to be on 120m years ago but recently reported by someone nearby. Is anyone else hearing it? Found nothing on website about this frequency, but apparently quite active on VHF digital, mentions 151 MHz area. WRTH now shows most such stations are in 206 MHz band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 1610 kHz, Jan 27 at 0158 UT, CHHA Toronto is managing to modulate unlike last night, checked via Milton Ont SDR, PSA in language with `O Canada` jingles, presumably Tagalog, with English admixtures, CHHA ID in passing, ``Voice of the Community``, and ``Radio Latin, Wednesday edition``. In the first place I was checking whether it still ID on air as ``Radio Voces Latinas`` like the website is still branded. Completely covers CHRN Montreal if any. City to city, Toronto is 1764 km, Montreal a further 504 km at 2268. 10 kW CHHA is easily audible here direct, far better than 50 kW stations such as 1010 CFRB, 860 CJBC, 740 CFZM since 1610 is a `clear` channel (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, Jan 27 at 0708, RHC English still on here, S9+20; usually this one goes off earliest, but now all the rest of The Cuban Five, 5040, 6060, 6100, 9700 are off. You never know which combination will be active. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 12030, Jan 27 at 1603 direct; 1620 and still past 1700, again today! Recheck at 1910, 12030 is still dead air, and by now 9690 has started with VG signal and mod. Something`s always nonsensical at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. [DX] Requesting help with Tianjin AM IDs!
Löytyykö Suomesta apuja Chrisin kokoelmaan? Chris Kadlec Hi all. I am looking for TOH ID recordings of Tianjin, China stations. Here is why: For a few years, I've helped many of you ID your Chinese clips. It's a fun little challenge and I plan to continue it as long as I can (anyone with some extra clips can always send them or post them!). Last May, I started working on a project of recording Chinese TOH IDs to create an easily searchable audio database of archived TOH IDs of all Chinese stations organized by frequency as well as alphabetically so everyone can more easily match IDs themselves. That project has now netted me a whole 515 stations, two TOH IDs from each station plus half-hour pips/IDs from those stations who have them. Most of the 515 stations are heard on multiple frequencies. I have documented approximately 90-95% of the entire AM band in China, including almost every language of CRI broadcasts and right down to the 1kw stations. However... The entire Tianjin market is missing. The broadcasting group in Tianjin, which is a major city with numerous higher-powered stations, uses none of the common streaming sites in China and their website is outdated from the ages of their .asx audio streams. Even small town stations can usually be found online, so such a major market with nothing at all is notable. I am missing the following frequencies from Tianjin: 567 666 747 909 1008 1071 1098 and 1386 (that is, all of them). Some of you hear these stations on your own setup now and then or are in the Arctic and know exactly when to listen. I don't have the time to play with worldwide SDRs as I have an 8-month old that regularly chases me down whenever I work on DX projects. None of the Asian SDRs easily receive Tianjin; Korean ones are useless for AM, Russian and South Asians are too far out, and Japanese are clogged with domestic stations. I am looking for a recording of each of these IDs at the TOH including at least 1 minute before and after the ID (I usually end up with a recording of 2-4 minutes total). I will take what I can get as something is better than nothing at this point, as long as it is from May or later. If anyone has the means to help me get these IDs for the archive, I would be extremely grateful for the help and your help will assist other DXers in the future who use my database for UNIDs, giving me a complete database. -Chris Kadlec www.chriskadlec.com/radio/seoul/ ___ DX mailing list DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/dx ___ THE INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE IS FREE.
