Dear Wolfy

Japan Air Lines(JAL) and All Nippon Air Lines(ANA) decided not to fly on
Russian Territory from March 4. It will take 16hours (now 12hours via
Russia) from Tokyo to London via Alaska, North Pole, Greenland, or
24hours via traditional southern route (via South East Asia, Middle
East). I remember my first visit to Europe in the 20th century was via
the southern route using Lufthansa.

Note - HFCC are registered frequencies, so not necessarily always in use.
Maybe 15730 will replace 15735? Will need monitoring to check actual usage.

Hi - Thanks for the info. Looking at the link I think there is a mistake.
According to there schedule between 1400-1600 they are will be beaming two
signals at 86 degrees on 15735 KHz and 15730KHz only separated by 5KHz!?
Don't think many receivers could cope with this.
Kind Regards Simon

I was not aware of synchronised transmissions on SW? Interesting...

Interestingly, a simple search on Google does not reveal anything much about
current Shortwave frequencies and transmissions. And I have to admit that I
would have expected a much greater increase in SW use at the moment from all
sorts of international broadcasters. But, as the Internet condinues largely
intact I guess that I am just old-fashioned!

I suspect BBC WS will publish these channels also via "social media" so that
people having access to a sw radio can tune in.

Both frequencies heard well here on the North Yorkshire coast.

I have often wondered, in times of crisis when additional output such as
this comes on the air how people in the field of conflict become aware of
the extra transmissions. It's very unlikely that they read posts on places
like this and also, how many in the affected area would use shortwave as a
means to keep informed.
As DXers we obviously know the benefits of this medium, but in 21st century
Europe where events such as those unfolding in Ukraine are very rare do the
general population appreciate how useful shortwave can be.

Last night's transmission was certainly there but weak here on the South
Coast of the UK on 5875kHz.

Looking back a few years (!) BBC World Service used to transmit on near
neighbour channel 5975kHz in the evenings. Does anyone know if those
transmissions to Europe would have emanated from Woofferton and on the
same

beam as it were, and with the same kind of power?
