Pan American DX (only the less usual ones are included this time):

585 PUERTO RICO, WKAQ, Radio Reloj / El Polder Informativo, San Juan OCT 27
0025 - with woman talking almost continuosly about erection trouble "problemas
de potencia" and selling a long-distance problem that couled heal these
troubles with a number in the 1-800 which is a toll free US number. Only PR is
having the same toll free number as the USA, hence this suspected outlet.
Initially strong, slightly over WTIG and Radio Monte Cristi (HIAF) with bachata
music bumbling way under. Faded completly away before a formal ID could be
secured. Presumed based over previously log of them. Very unusual during
NON-auroral condx, but a semi-regular during AU. Nice catche under such low
solar activity and such high QRM from WTIG. (Chiochiu-QC)
580 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, HIAF, Monte Cristi 0040 - bachata tune followed by ID
sounding like "mega,...Radio Monte Cristi...quinientos ochenta" and merengue.
Very strong for a few minutes, way over WTIG while WKAQ has completly faded
away. Nice, the best Dominican here in Montreal. (Chiochiu-QC)

580 has some unusual Latin activity over the past few days (especially
yesturday), but the other channels had regular YVKS, HJAJ and YVNM (Coro,
Falcón) with often substandard reception, though YVKS was huge at times and RCN
Barranquilla (HJAJ) was listenable, no more, in fight with difficult to null
WJR. 580 had the only noteworthy foreign Pan-American activity on it.

Trans-Atlantic DX:

585 SPAIN, Radio Nacional de España, Madrid OCT 28 0320 - fair and listenable
(though was HUGE on peaks, with very short deep fades - mostly on rather than
faded !) with the announcer asking a listener the captial city of various
countries "¿ y cual es la capital de Grecia ? Athena. Esa es una fácil ?"; "¿ y
la capital de Chile ? Santiago followed by other kind of listener-announcer
chatter (but I'm away from the radio right now). Quite weird kind of
programming. Instead of asking silly questions, they should play the music, but
since I love geography too, it's quite amuzing and of course it's a thrill to
enjoy and to have armchair copy out of a TA using just a Sanyo MCD-S830
portable barefoot. The most reliable Spanish language DX (even though it's TA)
tonight in the Montreal area. (Chiochiu-QC)

Bogdan Chiochiu DX'ing from Pierrefonds (Montreal's West Island), Quebec using
a barefoot Sanyo MCD-S830 portable

I'm going back to my DX duties while charging my IPod for school.

May the good DX be with you !
Bogdan
Btw.: Spain-585 has faded up to a huge peak !!!
