I second the HP Pro Curve recommendation.
The lifetime warranty is amazing.

Yes. I am a big fan, and own 2 Dell 2716 GBit switches.
Both are so much better that the Netgear 10/100 switches they replaced.
My Brother still only does 10/100, but even it seems spritlier on the
Dell switches.
I gladly give the 2716's 5 STARS.
When Acronis bootable Rescue CD boots up what happens... you boot
into windows ... or do you boot up to a interface which allows you to
restore a backup that is saved to your hard drive, USB drive, etc?
thanks
Choice. You can boot into the Acronis software to do restores or backups
and then there's another option to boot into Windows.
There's also a way to add Acronis to your boot menu so you don't need the
CD.

I am not much of a game player so I never considered a game box.
However, last weeks discussion about using a PS3 as a multimedia box
and my PC as a content provider got me thinking. I don't require a
fancy network because it is just for me.
I know people bought the PS3 for it's blue ray
Its own interface

Oh, that makes sense now... I saw that option but
Outside of the Oppo 83, the ps3 is easily the best bd player I've seen. The
oppo is better.. But its 200+ more. So...

Yes, and unlike the 2700 series, the 2800 series supports STP/RSTP and SNMP.
That was my biggest complaint for an otherwise solid inexpensive basic
switch. We just moved to a big Catalyst 3750 stack at work (needed something
stackable and PoE), so unfortunately I'll be stuck with over a dozen
, other than a reinstall, to recover or change the admin password?

Greg,
So,...
.you believe the 2816 is really worth the ~$90 extra freight?
Interesting! Really.

If STP and SNMP are important to you, yes...but I can't imagine a situation
in which they would be for typical home use.

Greg,
Thank you. These are 2 protocols I am still grappling with.
I have noise with SNMP (?). Do not know about STP yet
