So they got from a PC that is near silent to one that sounds like a tornado?
I would be seriously annoyed if that happened.
FWIW I wound up doing a little surgery and using a standard 400 watt unit on
sale.
The old one ( not hooked up with the extra 4 wire plug ) tests OK with my antec
tester. I am assuming the extra juice of the p4 is what is drawing it down. get
faults on all rails.

looks like a too nice a PSU for the box. :-}
Am going to see if I can get the customer to fork it out. Found 350 watt
replacements on ebay for $60 but IMO 350 watts is not enough but who am I to
argue with the factory.
FWIW this is the first Dell I have seen with a bad PSU.
