Also, thanks to Sally for arranging the AJL Shmooze and Nosh. We had a
great turnout!

A friend sent this strongly-worded reprimand of the Stamford University
leadership to me. It's worth reading.
What a powerful statement. Good for the UK to speak up, but horrible for
the people (and schools) that are affected by antisemitism.

Hi Michelle,
When I chair the STBA 2022 and 2023 committees, I was hoping to find an
easy way to sort the books, too. I ended up creating a spreadsheet of all
129 pages of books so the list would be searchable in various ways.
Webmaster Sheryl Stahl activated the search function.

This article was on the front page of the Hartford Courant. Basically, in
Farmington, CT, the town's South Asian population asked the school board to
make Diwali a day off, since Asians represent 23% of the population. Not

The Sydney Taylor Book Award is presented annually to outstanding books for
children and teens that authentically portray the Jewish experience.
Presented by the Association of Jewish Libraries since 1968, the award
encourages the publication and widespread use of quality Judaic literature.

Hi Lisa,
I don't have the answers to your questions, but I do have a possible reason
for why illustrators are putting kippot on characters.
With the call for more diverse books, a kippah is an easy way to indicate
that a character is Jewish. Other diverse groups have varying skin tones,
clothing,

Lin Oliver co-authors books with Henry Winkler, who is Jewish. I wonder
what his reaction to this is. I also wonder if the SCBWI Board was
consulted. I think some of the members are also Jewish.
Since many Jewish Kidlit Mavins signed a letter asking SCBWI to make a
statement about anti-semitism,
