Subject: [ha-Safran] 2018 AJL Jewish Fiction Award Winners

Dear Safranim,

The Association of Jewish Libraries Jewish Fiction Award Committee is pleased
to announce the winners of the inaugural Jewish Fiction Award:

Award Winner: The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt)

Honor Awards: Nine Folds Make a Paper Swan by Ruth Gilligan (Tin House Books)
and A Boy in Winter by Rachel Seiffert (Pantheon Books/Knopf Doubleday
Publishing Group)

A full press release is attached. The Committee received over 50 works of
fiction with significant Jewish thematic content, written in English and
available in the United States in 2017. The Committee congratulates the winners
and thanks all those who submitted entries for consideration. The wide array of
books published this year is a testament to the vibrant state of contemporary
Jewish fiction. Submissions for the 2019 AJL Fiction Award are now being
accepted. Please see the attached submission guidelines statement for the award
criteria and submission instructions.

Many thanks to Committee colleagues (Rachel Kamin, Clare Kinberg, and Rosalind
Reisner) for all of their hard work and dedication and to Dan Wyman for his
generous support of the award.

Please see this link for an article by Erika Dreifus on the award in Tablet.
Special thanks to Erika and interviewee Rachel Kamin.
