With so much news to follow at the moment, you may have missed this bright
spot: a terrific, extensive piece by Penny Schwartz for JTA about Jacob
Dinezon and the new translation of his 1877 novel that's now available from
Jewish Storyteller Press.

The article begins:

Hot off the Jewish press in Vilna in 1877, a dramatic Yiddish romance novel
became a surprising success, selling out its first 10,000 copies in Jewish
communities across Poland and Russia.

It’s not hard to see why.
