The Library of the Jewish Theological Seminary is seeking someone to fill the position Library Specialist, Special Collections.
The primary role is the daily management of the Special Collections Reading Room circulation desk providing front-line services to the Library users and staff. The initial assignment will include responsibilities related to moving the special collections to the new library. This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week. Responsibilities include monitoring usage of the Special Collections and its Reading Room. Duties include updating user records and agreements, responding to and routing email requests and phone calls, paging materials from rare book stacks, reshelving materials, monitoring users in the special collections reading room, assist users in physical handling of materials. Other duties include responding to basic reference questions and providing resources to users, updating bibliographic and item information in catalog (ALEPH), maintaining user statistics, administering all scanning requests, keeping log of temperature/humidity in rare book stacks, and other special projects as required. Requirements include BA and knowledge of Hebrew and Judaica. excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to excellent service. Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, scholars, and external users. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed tasks with accuracy. Familiarity with libraries and library computer systems or ability to learn. Ability to work collaboratively with the scholarly community and the special collections staff.
