(I am happy to post this announcement of a new title by my friend, Sharon Solomon
Amy Turim, Librarian, Temple Emanuel Kensington, MD What do kids do these days when their sports events conflict with family cultural and religious activities? Eleven-year-old backstroke rivals Ted Richman and Hiro Kojima find themselves facing this problem in my book *Ride High with the Wave. * On Saturdays Hiro goes to Japanese School and Ted attends Sabbath services with his family. The two boys join forces to get the swim meets changed to Sundays. With advice from their grandparents in the form of Yiddish and Japanese proverbs, Hiro and Ted form strategies to make this change happen. Will they succeed? Will they resolve their rivalry? *Ride High With the Wave *is a middle grade novel for ages 8-12. It deals with a real-life situation children and families face today. The reader will experience Japanese and Jewish holidays and traditions and swim meets as Hiro and Ted continue their efforts. This book focuses on competition and the clash of priorities in our society. This realistic fiction novel is both multicultural and multigenerational and takes place in Pittsburgh. I am the author of eight published children’s books as listed on my website www.sharonsbooks.net. I was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in McKeesport. *Ride High With The Wave *would be a great addition to the children’s collection of your library. Sincerely, Sharon K.
