From the introduction: “The synagogues of Turkey, which had not gone through any significant changes over the past years, underwent countless restorations, modifications, reconstructions and diverse usages during the last decade. All these changes took place in a relatively short time due to the rising awareness of the historical heritage of Turkey by the directors of the Turkish Jewish Community, the Municipalities and the General Directorate of Foundations. As a result of the above, it was essential to publish a second “extended” edition of this book which was first published in 2008.
