Should be from pkg-config path, make sure your PKG_CONFIG_PATH is set
to include /Library/Frameworks/{GLib,Gtk,Cairo}.framework
Also, I had a problem where it couldn't find libpng -- I had to add /
usr/X11/lib/pkgconfig to my pkg-config path.
