This is the second invitation and call for contributions to the

9th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP on the IMPLEMENTATION of FUNCTIONAL LANGUAGES
(IFL '97)

============================================================================
======

                                to be held at
the University of St Andrews, St Andrews, Scotland
                  Wednesday, Sept 10th - Friday, Sept 12th 1997

                                Scope of IFL '97
                                ----------------

The workshop is intended to provide an open forum for researchers who wish
to present
and discuss new ideas and concepts, work in progress, preliminary results etc.
related to the implementation of functional or function-based languages.

Topics of interest include (but are not restricted to):

   o language concepts
   o type checking
   o compilation techniques
   o (abstract) interpretation
   o automatic program generation
   o (abstract) machine architectures
o concurrent programming and program execution
   o heap management
o runtime profiling and performance measurements

and also applications of functional programming.

                 Contributions and Publication Details
                 -------------------------------------

All attendees are encouraged to submit papers to be published in the draft
proceedings and
to give presentations at the workshop.

We hope to follow the lead of IFL '96 in publishing a selected subset of
high-quality
contributions in the Springer LNCS series. Papers published in this
way will be refereed to normal conference standards.

The workshop fee will be around 225 UK pounds sterling,
including 3 nights accommodation, all meals, the conference banquet,
the draft proceedings and the social event.
Extra nights' accommodation can be reserved at a reasonable rate.

                                Further Information
                                -------------------

Full details of the workshop, including information on the town of St Andrews,
travel etc. can be found at:

        http://www.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~ifl97

Note that the workshop will run a week after the PLILP/ALP/HOA 1997
conferences in
Southampton, UK (September 3-5), and immediately before the annual
Glasgow workshop (we will happily recommend IFL attendees to the
Glasgow organisers on request).

We look forward to seeing you in St Andrews.
