As some expansion on the preferences location, the "organization" we used
is "brainvis.wustl.edu", on linux the file is here:
~/.config/brainvis.wustl.edu/Caret7.conf

I don't know of any workbench preferences that would hang the system. That
warning may not need to be severe, as it should tell
