difference between buffersize and blocksize

Hello, I am using fuse_dfs api along with hdfs. Fuse_dfs uses libhdfs to call the appropriate hdfs functions. I found that there are two variables used in hdfs - buffer size and blocksize. While the buffer size is 4096 bytes, the block size is 67108864 bytes (64MB). Could some please explain to me
