Hi [~elgoiri],

Thanks for the reply. I just put both HDFS-12813 and HDFS-13388 to branch-3.0
which is the branch for 3.0.3 release.

HI [~elgoiri],

Thanks for staying on top. I have been doing Jira gardening, have not cut
branch for 3.0.3 yet. Since the Jira is in 3.0.2, it should be nice to have in
3.0.3. Can the issue be fixed and put into 3.0.3?

Thanks.

I reverted this from branch-3.0 for now.
Not sure if it's fine to start backporting in the middle of release.
[~bibinchundatt], [~yzhangal], [~LiJinglun], to keep it simple, let's leave it
in branch-3.1 and trunk; if any of you guys need it in 3.0.3, let me know and
we do a patch for this one.

 [^HADOOP-13388.0013.patch] LGTM.
A minor nit is that:
{code}
assertExceptionContains(
"Expected Exception Info", e);
{code}
Can fit in just one line.

Other than that this is good.
Let me know if you are comfortable committing this.

Yetus build is clean and it looks like the test run
[succesfully|https://builds.apache.org/job/PreCommit-HDFS-Build/23918/testReport/org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.ha/TestRequestHedgingProxyProvider/].

Minor nits:
* static import for {{GenericTestUtils.assertExceptionContains()}}.
* We could use a different counter for the bad and good to track this more
accurately.
* Add some comments explaining the purpose and the expectation of the two new
tests.

Jinglun commented on HDFS-13388:

Thanks [~elgoiri] for comments. I updates the test case for static import,
GenericTestUtils and catch IOException in patch 0012, please give a review when
you have time:). And there is a counter in testRequestNNAfterOneSuccess() which
makes the two bad mock a little different, so i keep two bad mocks for the two
test cases respectively.

Íñigo Goiri commented on HDFS-13388:

Minor comments on  [^HADOOP-13388.0011.patch].
* The bad mock could be reused for the two unit tests.
* Use the static {{when}} instead of {{Mockito.when}}.
* For the checking of the exception, you can catch the IOException directly.
* For the check of the message, GenericTestUtils has a utility to check
messages.

first option, and patch 008 includes all the changes.

[~LiJinglun], this would be an addendum on top of what we have already
committed, right?
I'm in between three options:
* Revert the current one and do a full patch
* Committing an addendum
* Opening a new JIRA for the fix

Hi [~elgoiri], I find a bug of 0006.patch: the InvocationTargetException isn't
handled well so we can't get the correct Exception information when the proxy
fails. My bad:(.

Hi [~elgoiri], {{branch-3.0}} also has compilation errors.
{code:java}

I could see HDFS-12813 changes doesn't exists in branch-3.0 and causes the
failure. Please consider this branch, while correcting. Thanks!

Actually, branch-2 is fine as the rename of the variable is already there.
[~LiJinglun], post a branch-2.9 if you want it there.

Hi [~elgoiri], [~Sammi] , the problem is the variable represents the successful
proxy is named successfulProxy in branch-2.9 while named currentUsedProxy in
trunk. What could I do to fix this? Should i submit a new patch for branch-2.9?

branch-2 is named currentUsedProxy so it should be ok.

Thanks [~LiJinglun], minor comment. When we do {{assertTrue(count.get() ==
2);}}, it would be better to use {{assertEquals(2, count.get());}} as it
provides proper logs.
Other than that +1.

[~LiJinglun], replacing the static for everybody in the class is probably the
proper thing to do high level but I don't think it should be done for the whole
class.
Let's do that just for this new test case not for the whole class.
Other than that looks good.

[~LiJinglun], regarding the static import, instead of doing a full
{{Assert.assertTrue()}} and {{Mockito.when()}}.
At the beginning you can do an import like:
{code}
import static org.junit.Assert.assertTrue;
{code}

 do the fix, and then attach the updated patch.

Thanks [~LiJinglun] for  [^HADOOP-13388.0001.patch] .
Other than the checkstyle fix, I would do static imports for the Assert and the
Mockito methods.
Other than that, it looks good.
