Thanks [~Prabhu Joseph] for the update. Would you update the javadoc for
{{HttpFSAuthenticationFilter#getConfiguration}}?
{code:java}
* It returns all HttpFSServer's configuration properties prefixed with
* httpfs.authentication. The httpfs.authentication
* prefix is removed from the returned property names. {code}
I'm +1 if that is addressed.

Thanks [~Prabhu Joseph] for the patch and thanks [~eyang] for the review.
Tested the 004 patch and worked as expected.

Would you add the deprecated properties in DeprecatedProperties.md?

[~eyang] 1. Have replaced httpfs.authentication.* configs with
hadoop.http.authentication.* in httpfs-default.xml instead of removing so that
the above issue won't happen and also it is backward compatible. User can
specify either httpfs.authentication.* or hadoop.http.authentication.* in
httpfs-site.xml, if not specified, default configs will be taken from
httpfs-default.xml.

   2. Have added httpfs.authentication.* as deprecated in
httpfs-default.xml.

[~Prabhu Joseph] Thank you for the patch. I tested with these sets of
configuration and both can work as long as I define
hadoop.http.authentication.signature.secret.file.

{code}

  hadoop.http.authentication.type
  kerberos

  hadoop.http.authentication.kerberos.principal
  HTTP/host1.example@example.com

  hadoop.http.authentication.kerberos.keytab
  /etc/security/keytabs/spnego.service.keytab

  hadoop.http.authentication.signature.secret.file
  ${httpfs.config.dir}/httpfs-signature.secret

  hadoop.http.filter.initializers

org.apache.hadoop.security.authentication.server.ProxyUserAuthenticationFilterInitializer,org.apache.hadoop.security.HttpCrossOriginFilterInitializer

  hadoop.authentication.type
  kerberos

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.type
  kerberos

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.kerberos.principal
  nn/host1.example@example.com

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.kerberos.keytab
  /etc/security/keytabs/hdfs.service.keytab

{code}

Backward compatible config also works:
{code}

  hadoop.http.authentication.type
  kerberos

  httpfs.authentication.signature.secret.file
  ${httpfs.config.dir}/httpfs-signature.secret

  hadoop.http.filter.initializers

org.apache.hadoop.security.authentication.server.ProxyUserAuthenticationFilterInitializer,org.apache.hadoop.security.HttpCrossOriginFilterInitializer

  httpfs.authentication.type
  kerberos

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.type
  kerberos

  httpfs.authentication.kerberos.principal
  HTTP/host-1.example@example.com

  httpfs.authentication.kerberos.keytab
  /etc/security/keytabs/spnego.service.keytab

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.kerberos.principal
  nn/host-1.example@example.com

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.kerberos.keytab
  /etc/security/keytabs/hdfs.service.keytab

{code}

When httpfs.authentication.signature.secret.file is undefined in
httpfs-site.xml, httpfs server doesn't work.

Thanks [~eyang] for detailed review.
{quote}All HttpFS unit tests are passing on my system. Which test requires a
separate ticket?
{quote}
I was trying to add a new class HttpFSAuthenticationFilterInitializer which
adds the HttpFSAuthenticationFilter instead of hardcoding in web.xml
(authFilter tag). With this new changes, tests were failing. Have ignored those
changes for now.
{quote}I think some logic to map the configuration are missing in patch 002.
{quote}
The httpfs.authentication.* configs are getting populated from
httpfs-default.xml in HttpFSServerWebApp#init() -> Server#initConfig()
{code:java}
String defaultConfig = name + "-default.xml";
ClassLoader classLoader = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader();
InputStream inputStream = classLoader.getResourceAsStream(defaultConfig);
{code}
So always httpfs.authentication.* configs are present even if it is not defined
in httpfs-site.xml. Have tried to ignore httpfs-default.xml but some default
configs are required for startup.

One way it works is by removing httpfs.authentication.* set of configs from
httpfs-default.xml but user has to ensure these configs are defined in
https-site.xml either using prefix httpfs.authentication or
hadoop.http.authentication.  Have attached [^HDFS-14845-003.patch] with this
changes. Please let me know if this approach is fine.

[~Prabhu Joseph] Thank you for patch 002.

{quote}But most of the testcases related to HttpFSServerWebServer (eg:
TestHttpFSServer) requires more changes as they did not use HttpServer2 and so
the filter initializers are not called, instead it uses a Test Jetty Server
with HttpFSServerWebApp which are failing as the filter won't have any configs.

Please let me know if we can handle this in a separate improvement Jira.{quote}

All HttpFS unit tests are passing on my system. Which test requires a separate
ticket?

{quote}Have changed the HttpFSAuthenticationFilter$getConfiguration to honor
the hadoop.http.authentication configs which will be overridden by
httpfs.authentication configs.{quote}

Patch 2 works for these configuration:

{code}

  hadoop.http.authentication.type
  kerberos

  hadoop.http.authentication.kerberos.principal
  HTTP/host-1.example@example.com

  hadoop.http.authentication.kerberos.keytab
  /etc/security/keytabs/spnego.service.keytab

  hadoop.http.filter.initializers

org.apache.hadoop.security.authentication.server.ProxyUserAuthenticationFilterInitializer,org.apache.hadoop.security.HttpCrossOriginFilterInitializer

  httpfs.authentication.type
  kerberos

  hadoop.authentication.type
  kerberos

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.type
  kerberos

  httpfs.authentication.kerberos.principal
  HTTP/host-1.example@example.com

  httpfs.authentication.kerberos.keytab
  /etc/security/keytabs/spnego.service.keytab

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.kerberos.principal
  nn/host-1.example@example.com

  httpfs.hadoop.authentication.kerberos.keytab
  /etc/security/keytabs/hdfs.service.keytab

{code}

It doesn't work when configuration skips httpfs.hadoop.authentication.type,
httpfs.authentication.kerberos.keytab and
httpfs.hadoop.authentication.kerberos.principal.  httpfs server doesn't start
when these config are missing. I think some logic to map the configuration are
missing in patch 002.

[~eyang] [~aajisaka] Thanks for the review comments.

[~eyang] 1. Have tried with a new filter initializer
{{HttpFSAuthenticationFilterInitializer}} which adds the filter
{{HttpFSAuthenticationFilter}} and initializes the filter configs and this
works fine. But most of the testcases related to {{HttpFSServerWebServer}} (eg:
{{TestHttpFSServer}}) requires more changes as they did not use {{HttpServer2}}
and so the filter initializers are not called, instead it uses a Test Jetty
Server with {{HttpFSServerWebApp}} which are failing as the filter won't have
any configs.

Please let me know if we can handle this in a separate improvement Jira.

2. Have changed the {{HttpFSAuthenticationFilter$getConfiguration}} to honor
the {{hadoop.http.authentication}} configs which will be overridden by
{{httpfs.authentication}} configs.

Have attached [^HDFS-14845-002.patch] with changes to ignore
{{AuthenticationFilterInitializer}} and (2).

[~Prabhu Joseph] Thank you for finding the root cause and providing the
workaround!

[~eyang] We only want HttpFSAuthenticationFilter in HttpFS because HttpFS
doesn't have Web UI. We would like to use the same config as possible, so we
set JWTRedirectAuthenticationFilter for the other components that have Web UI
and that worked fine even in HttpFS before HADOOP-16314.

bq. If httpfs.authentication.* are not defined, then fall back to the default
behavior to be consistent with hadoop.http.authentication.type.

Now I'm +1 for Eric's suggestion. I'm thinking it's better that we can use the
common settings (hadoop.http.authentication.type) in HttpFS to avoid
component-specific settings.

[~Prabhu Joseph] Would it be possible that HttpFSAuthenticationFilter is only a
parameter passing filter to trigger filter initialization like
ProxyUserAuthenticationFilterInitializer, and the internally route all doGet,
doPost methods to the initialized filter?

1. If httpfs.authentication.* are not defined, then fall back to the default
behavior to be consistent with hadoop.http.authentication.type.
2. This provides appearance that if httpfs.authentication.type is configured to
use custom filter, the system will respond consistently with rest of the Hadoop
web end points.
3. If httpfs.authentication.type=kerberos, HttpFSAuthenticationFilter is a
combo of Kerberos + DelegationToken + Proxy support.

[~eyang] HttpFSAuthenticationFilter supports JWTRedirectAuthenticationHandler
by setting it in httpfs.authentication.type (similar to simple or kerberos).

AuthenticationFilterInitializer or ProxyUserAuthenticationFilterInitializer can
be made default for HttpFS but will will miss support of httpfs.authentication
specific configs and WebHdfs Deletagion Token provided by
HttpFSAuthenticationFilter.

[~Prabhu Joseph] Thank you for the patch. Correct me if I am mistaken. This
patch will restore HttpFSAuthenticationFilter instead of enforcing custom
filters. When user select to use JWTAuthenticationFilter, it would not apply
to HttpFS server. This may not meet user expectation. The more proper
solution is to nullified HttpFSAuthenticationFilter, and map authFilter
initialization to the standard filter initializer only.

[~aajisaka] Let us know if you really intend to use JWTAuthenticationFilter
with HttpFS, or you only want HttpFSAuthenticationFilter? Thanks

Thanks for sharing the details. That helped to repro the issue. The issue
happens as {{AuthenticationFilter}} (Kerberos handler) is called twice.

1. HttpFSAuthenticationFilter (httpfs.authentication.type=kerberos)
2. AuthenticationFilterInitializer added in hadoop.http.filter.initializer
(hadoop.http.authentication.type=kerberos)

The default {{HttpFSAuthenticationFilter}} itself a combination of Kerberos +
Delegation + Proxy support. And hence the {{AuthenticationFilterInitializer}}
and {{ProxyUserAuthenticationFilterInitializer}} are not required for
{{HttpFSServerWebServer}}.

Workaround is to remove them from hadoop.http.filter.initializer in
core-site.xml.
Have prepared a patch to do the same if this is configured.

Our settings related to AuthFilter are as follows

* hadoop.http.authentication.type:
org.apache.hadoop.security.authentication.server.JWTRedirectAuthenticationHandler
* httpfs.authentication.zk-dt-secret-manager.enable: true
* httpfs.authentication.type: kerberos

After HADOOP-16366, JWTRedirectAuthenticationHandler is enabled for httpfs in
addition to KerberosDelegationTokenAuthenticationHandler, which is set by
HttpFSAuthenticationFilter.

Now our workaround is to set "hadoop.http.authentication.type" to "simple" to
discard the common filter (JWTRedirectAuthenticationHandler) in httpfs.

[~aajisaka] Am trying to reproduce in test cluster. Can you share below details
which will help to debug. Thanks.

1. Value of hadoop.http.filter.initializers set in core-site.xml
2. Hdfs Log file | grep -i filter

After HADOOP-16314, both HttpFSAuthenticationFilter and AuthenticationFilter
are enabled on '/webhdfs' endpoint and that way there are two authentication
requests at the same time. Hi [~Prabhu Joseph], would you mind taking a look?

I'm thinking HttpFSAuthenticationFilter should be removed as well as
DFSRouter(HDFS-14609).

Now we're trying to figure out the root cause.
Maybe HADOOP-16366 and HADOOP-16314 are related.
