It was a failure of finding the documentation between 4.x and 5.x with regards
to @GeneratedValue(AUTO) behavior.
Setting hibernate.id.new_generator_mappings=false fixed it.

I wouldn't open the door at supporting both in ORM and let the consuming
projects decide of the strategy they want to follow and how they want to
solve the issue globally.
