Re: [Histonet] Redeployment of histology equipment

2015-12-15 Thread Linda Miller via Histonet
I'm wondering if the rules / guidelines for histonet has changed for
brokers?
(In the last month or two I have seen a couple brokers either advertising
items they sell or are looking to purchase and I had thought that was
frowned upon by Histonet.)

The posting below was the most recent, but also Rankin Biomedical had
advertised in the last couple months as they were looking for a specific
microtome (Vibratome 1000 plus, 1500 or 3000)

Thank you,
Linda Miller

Re: [Histonet] Leica Bond machines

2015-12-15 Thread Charles Riley via Histonet
pH was good in the Water and my wash buffer. Found out that my detection
kits were from bad lots. Leica rep finally was able to swing by and helped
me troubleshoot the issue. Found out there were 3 lots of bond polymer
detection kits that were manufactured differently tan normal and it was
affecting staining. The lot #'s ended in 555, 314, and 486. So if anyone
else is having this issue I would contact them to get them replaced

[Histonet] Histology equipment ads

2015-12-15 Thread Linda Margraf via Histonet
Hi Histonetters;

I have had a couple of inquiries about whether the rules have changed
regarding advertising on the list and the answer is no. As we run this list
using the University of Texas software and equipment, we cannot allow
advertising. The line gets blurry sometimes but I had to notify the individual
that sent the message below of the rules and he promised not to send messages
like that again. We do still allow job postings, even from recruiters, as the
membership seems to like receiving them. It is fine, welcomed in fact, for
the vendors on the list to answer queries if they can offer assistance but they
should not use the list to advertise their wares.
If you ever have a message you are unsure about, please contact me about
whether it is appropriate before you post it.

Thanks,

Hi Everyone:

I have a co-worker who will be starting in a surgical histology laboratory
soon, and wants to get his HTL.
What is the best all-around book of histotechnology for him to have?
Also, is there a favorite book for immunohistochemistry?

Thanks,

Tim

[Histonet] CAP proficiency testing

2015-12-15 Thread Nexgen Pathology via Histonet
Hello all,
We are a histology lab and we are about to begin CAP proficiency testing in
order to acquire CAP certification. We currently have a menu of about 30
IHC antibodies that we currently run, including ER/PR/HER2 for breast.
The CAP proficiency test/surveys catalog has a pretty limited and somewhat
random menu of IHC antibodies that are available for testing.
Can anyone tell me what is the minimum IHC proficiency testing one needs to
do in order to comply with CAP certification?

Thanks much

Re: [Histonet] Favorite book for histotechnology and immunohistochemistry?

2015-12-15 Thread Patrick Laurie via Histonet
Hi Tim,
I like Carson/Hladik "Histotechnology" for the best all around histology
book. It is closely seconded by the Sheehan/Hrapchak "Theory and practice
of Histotechnology" and Bancroft/Gamble "Theory and practice of
Histological Techniques".
Favorite book for IHC - Elias "Immunohistopathology, A Practical approach
to Diagnosis" for theory behind IHC as well as some good info on how IHC is
interpreted by pathologists. For a expert edition focused primarily on
pathologists, I like Dabbs "Diagnostic Histochemistry, Theranostic and
genomic applications", Taylor/Cote "Immunomicroscopy, a Diagnostic tool for
the surgical pathologist". There are many others out there that do a
fantastic job, these are just the ones that I use regularly.

Thanks,

[Histonet] SDH Protocol Help

2015-12-15 Thread Jackie Lair via Histonet
Good Evening Everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to share their SDH protocol for frozen
muscle biopsies?

Lately I have been having trouble with our SDH staining too light.

I've been working with two different protocols and have kept the slides in the
SDH incubation solution from 1 hour up to 2 hours both at room temp and in a 36
degree water bath with no luck at getting the sections to stain darker.

I welcome any info, help, tips, and tricks anyone can provide with this stain.
:)

Thank You,
Jackie Lair
