However, he was quick to add that so far, there were no evidence to link the incidents to any organisations, political parties or foreigners. "It is possible that the recent clashes were organised to take advantage of the situation. "On our part, the people can be rest assured that all possible approaches are implemented,'' he told reporters after launching the 194th Police Day celebrations at the Police Training Centre in Jalan Semarak here yesterday. On Saturday, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu described the recent violence against Indians as "organised crimes.'' Norian said over the last 48 hours, there had been no fresh incidents linked to the Kampung Medan clashes. The IGP challenged those who questioned police over the actual number of deaths to provide evidence so that police could conduct investigations. "Based on police reports and hospital records, the number of people who have died so far still stands at six. "We have nothing to hide. It makes no difference whether there are six or eight deaths. Why should we want to conceal the number?'' he asked. Norian said security in Kampung Medan and its vicinity was not at threat, adding that about 1,000 personnel were still stationed there to keep tabs on the situation. "Although the area is not relatively big, we feel there is a need for visible police presence,'' he said, adding the people would feel more secure and could continue with their daily lives. Norian also said that his men would arrest and charge only those believed to have commited offences. He said they would not simply pick up anyone on the streets because it would be unjust to do so. "We cannot go around punishing people who are not involved just because we want to quell the tension and stop the fights,'' he said. In Ipoh, Samy Vellu said his claim that outsiders had caused the fresh attacks along the Old Klang Road was true. He said he was told that outsiders had come to the area after midnight to to stage the attacks. "They strike at about 3am in areas where no policemen were in sight and left before dawn,'' he said, adding that some of them came in cars while others on motorcycles. He urged the police to station more personnel at public places in the wee hours especially at bus stops. Samy Vellu said he had made daily visits to the areas in Petaling Jaya ever since the incidents took place. He said he had seen how the Malays and Indians in the areas lived in peace and harmony, adding that there were no more fights between the two races but the people were confused over the fresh attacks. ______________________________________________________________ This email has been sent through 2b at http://www.2bmail.co.uk ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ( Melanggan ?
