Strong protest against Donald Lim for calling off meeting with the residents of PJ and Taman Tun Dr Ismail 2. DAP stands firm in anti toll campaign ======================================= Ronnie Liu, DAP National Publicity Secretary and Shadow MPPJ Chairman today expresses his regret over the calling off of the meeting between Donald Lim and the residents of Petaling Jaya and Taman Tun Dr Ismail this morning at the Ministry of Transport. The Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Transport Donald Lim called off the meeting after failing to expel me without a good reason. Lim had wasted the valuable time of the representatives who took time off to attend the meeting. Donald Lim was trying to give an excuse that I was not invited to the meeting, and he challenged me to show the notice of meeting. When I counter-challenged him that I could produce the notice, he backed off by calling off the meeting. While the MCA Kg Tunku Assemblyman Wong Sai How and another MCA city councillor shared the view of Donald Lim, MCA PJ Utara MP Chew Mei Fun and MCA Damansara Utama Assemblyman C K Lim remained silent during the whole episode. I was very disappointed at the attitude shown by all the MCA elected representatives in Petaling Jaya. They should have the courage to speak up in the interest of the residents, instead of toeing their party line by not saying a single word in the meeting. If they are not prepared to speak up, why should they call for the meeting? Why are they afraid of me? What has the MCA got to hide from the residents and the DAP? The DAP is also very disappointed with SPRINT, the concession holder of the Damansara Link. The company had proceeded with the construction of toll plazas without any modification of their plan despite the protest signatures by more than 23,000 residents last year. The DAP is also disappointed with the MPPJ, the Selangor State Government and the Prime Minister office for their indifference over the controversy. SPRINT has gone ahead to provide the so-called alternative road with only two lanes, knowing pretty well that it's not going to help the road users who are not willing to pay tolls. The road users would be forced to use the tolled roads due to heavy congestion and inconvenience. I believe a lot of motorists would divert into the residential areas nearby, causing much pollution and congestion in the area. The Prime Minister once said that as long as the motorists are not willing to pay tolls, the government would not build any highways with tolls. But now, his department allows SPRINT to build toll plazas along old existing roads! And we have reasons to believe that SPRINT is allowed by the government to charge RM1.20 and RM4.00 respectively for the Damansara Link and Kerinchi Link. Imagine how much one needs to pay over 33 years or more! The DAP and Shadow MPPJ will co-operate with the Coalition of Anti Toll (CAT) (headed by Lim Kit Siang, the former Opposition Leader), made up of all Barisan Alternatif parties and NGOs, to protect the interest of the people. We hope the people of the Klang Valley will unite under the banner of BA in fighting for their rights. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ( Melanggan ?
