The comments were made by Parvin Darabi, of the Dr. Homa Darabi Foundation, during a June 24th discussion of rape in Kosovo on "The O'Reilly Factor" with host Bill O'Reilly. (An "O'Reilly Factor" producer told CAIR that more than 750 messages had been received by Monday morning, less than 24-hours after CAIR sent a notice to the Muslim community. American Muslims for Global Peace and Justice also sent an alert to the community.) "May Allah bless all those who immediately contacted FOX to express their outrage. Because of their quick action, CAIR had an opportunity to defend the image of Islam," said CAIR Board Chairman Omar Ahmad. "Copies of the messages sent to FOX indicated the thoughtful nature of those who contacted the network," said Ahmad. Ahmad added that this proves once again that individual actions can change the outcome of an incident. In his rebuttal, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said on last night's program: NIHAD AWAD: Well, first of all, let me say this. Mrs. Darabi's remarks, from the tremendous response that came to your program, shows how off base her remarks were. She is saying -- or claiming that...Muslims, because of Islam, blame the victims. I am here to set the record straight. Rape is a traumatic experience. It's devastating for not only the woman but the family, loved ones...In Islam...Muslims should never blame the victim. The blame should only squarely be placed on the perpetrators of the crime... ...O'REILLY: How do you react when you read a report in "The New York Times" that, in Kosovo, some men are blaming their wives for being raped by the Serbs when their wives, of course, were defenseless? How do you react to that? AWAD: OK. When it happens, it happens because of local customs. It happens because of their own ethnic...traditions, but, again, there are no basis in the Islamic faith. Islam -- it places the crime on the perpetrator...we are not focusing on the real issue here. The real issue is the perpetrator, the sick and sickening mentality that the Serbs have in the government, in the police stations, having rape camps prepared for women, women staked to the floor and being raped, and... ...But if you don't mind, Bill, just one point because, you know, it's very important to state that we have to make clear distinction between cultural practices and practices that are based on Islamic belief. Look, for example, at wife beating in America. It is not a popular American value. We cannot hold Christianity and Christians responsible for it, although the Christian religion is dominant in this country. But, still, wife beating happens in America. We cannot blame Christianity for it. O'REILLY: I -- that's a point well taken. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ( Melanggan ?
