RELATIVES OF EGYPTAIR CRASH VICTIMS ASKED TO CONTACT CAIR
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Relatives and friends of those who died in the crash of
EgyptAir Flight 990 are being asked to contact CAIR. A number of family
members have already requested that CAIR help evaluate their future options.
At a news conference in Washington, CAIR officials offered an evaluation of
the transcript of Flight 990's cockpit voice recorder released today by the
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
CAIR said:
the transcripts show a man who was working with other crewmembers to save
the plane, not cause it to crash,
the initial leaks of inaccurate information following the crash corrupted
the atmosphere in which the investigation would take place, and
the fact that the co-pilot uttered the phrase "tawakaltu ala Allah," or "I
put my trust in God," by itself would not be sufficient to prove criminal
action or intent. CAIR also called for an investigation into the inaccurate
leaks.
Flight 990 crashed October 31, 1999, off the coast of Massachusetts, killing
all 217 people aboard. At the time of the crash, there was speculation that
the co-pilot uttered "tawakaltu ala Allah" before deliberately putting the
aircraft into a dive as part of a suicide attempt.

CON ARTIST CONTINUES TO TARGET MUSLIMS
CAIR has learned that a con artist who has been targeting Muslims across the
globe is still active. He recently contacted Muslims in places such as
Houston, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, claiming to be an official of an Islamic
bank, a representative of the Muslim World League (Al-Rabita), an Islamic
scholar, physician, or an expert traveling to a Muslim gathering who needs
money because he is stranded at an airport.
This fits his past method of operation in which he impersonates well-known
Muslim officials, such as Dr. Saleh Al-Sadlan and Ahmed Ali, and tells his
potential victims that he plans on visiting to support funding of local
Islamic projects.
