Two Indians attacked
PETALING JAYA - Two Indian men were attacked and slashed
yesterday morning in separate incidents by a motorcyclist and his pillion
rider in Jalan Klang Lama, the site of last week's racial clashes.
Selangor Chief Police Officer (CPO) Datuk Nik Ismail Nik Yusuf said the
first victim had suffered slashes on his head and body and collapsed on the
road.
'Police took the man to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre where is
reported to be in stable condition,' he said
The second victim, who was walking alone at 6.20 am, was also attacked
and slashed by two men on a motorcycle. The 40-year-old man sustained
light body injuries and received outpatient treatment.
Datuk Nik ismail said police had stepped up investigations to nab those
responsible for the attacks. He said police patrols had been intensified
along Jalan Klang Lama.
Meanwhile, the Indian family accused of sparking the clashes has said it is
innocent, saying a misunderstanding over a funeral and a wedding had been
settled before the clashes, The Sun reported.
A spokesman for the family, Mr M. Suriya, said an Indian youth who
allegedly disturbed the wedding preparations of a Malay family at Taman
Lindungan Jaya on March 4 was not a member of his household.
