Cell Phone Sites

On the one hand I'm not a huge fan of cell phones. People
tend to use them inappropriately in public, they fumble with
them behind the wheel of their cars and they attach a kind of
misguided status to the ownership of a 'cool' wireless. On
the other hand cells are indispensable tools for many,
offering connectivity when traveling, in emergencies and on
the spur of the moment when time is money. I've owned a cell
phone for just over a year now and I'm still dealing with the
cognitive dissonance caused by my divided opinion. In the end
everyone on the planet will probably wind up with a wireless
phone and that ubiquity will probably erase most of my
admittedly minor concerns. Here then is a small collection of
links that will help you understand, evaluate, purchase and
customize mobile phones of all kinds.

PC World: The Cell Phone Ten Commandments
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article.asp?aid=17190
Just to drive my first point home here's a little article
that every cell phone user should read. I don't think most
people intend to be annoying when they use their cell phones,
they probably just don't know how much they're bothering
others. This lighthearted article points out some of the most
vexing (and woefully common) cell phone no-nos. Most of this
stuff is common sense but I got a kick out of reading it.

Wireless – CNET.com

So, you've resolved to turn off your cell at public
performances, to turn it off when you're in a restaurant and
to never, never dial when driving. Now what? Which phone
should you buy? What service plan is right for your needs?
How can you sift through all the hyperbole and get the best
combination of features? CNET.com offers this excellent
introduction to the world of cell phones where you can find
anDwers to all those questions and more. CNET places special
emphasis on reviews written by readers so you can get first
hand accounts from people who use the products. In addition,
CNET's content is aimed at the novice so you won't have to
fill your head with a bunch of technical terms to understand
what they're talking about.

Cellphones.about.com

Hot to be outdone About.com maintains this cell phone super
site. Cellphones.about.com has sections on just about every
aspect of wireless communications from beginner and buyer's
guides to product reviews, downloadable software and
information on cell phone related health risks. Visit the
'Essentials' section first for a great selection of general
resources then follow the links on the right to more specific
articles and feature stories. These pages are packed with
select links to some of the best cell phone related sites on
the Web so it's a great jumping off point for further
exploration of today's topic.

YourMobile.com

There are hundreds of accessories available for cell phones
ranging from custom faceplates and lighted antennas to ultra
high capacity batteries and leather carrying cases. One of
the latest innovations in the field of cell phone accessories
is the custom ring tone. Many phones allow you to key in or
download ring tones that mimic popular songs, symphonic
pieces, TV themes and others. YourMobile.com is a massive
archive of these tunes, all of them available for free. If
you're sick of the rings that came with your phone
YourMobile.com is the place for you. There are literally
hundreds of songs here along with easy to follow instructions
on installing and using them. The content is updated
frequently so check back often for the latest offerings.
