KUALA LUMPUR - The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC)
has hit out at the Asian Wall Street Journal for publishing a confidential
consultancy report on Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor which paints
a bleak picture of the project.
'The MDC regrets that AWSJ has seen it fit and ethical to publish a
confidential consultancy report which is a draft form privy between the
consultant and its client,' the corporation said in a statement.
It said that although the MSC had made tremendous progress over the
past four years, there were still some areas that would require closer
attention and effort.
It said the regular reviews done in-house as well as through outside
consultants were aimed at fine tuning its business plan and strategies.
'There is nothing sensational. It is always part of the challenge that any hub
or business organisation needs to face,' it said.
It added that the draft review report of Feb 5 was one of these many
internal reviews.
The AWSJ reportedly obtained a copy of the report, done by consultants
McKinsey & Co, which was addressed to the MDC executive chairman.
Quoting from the report, AWSJ said the MSC had not attracted
substantial interest from global tech companies and nor had it had a
significant impact on its economy.
'Key gaps still exist in attracting sizeable and pioneering operations from
leading companies and facilitating knowledge and wealth transfer,
especially to the broader economy,' it said.
The study also touched on the level of participation by global tech
companies in the MSC.--Bernama
