The current Counter-Strike 1.6 beta will become the public version early next week and the update will be required. This update will need you to change to using steamcmd for updates (see https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD, CS 1.6 is appid 90 ). You can prepare for this update for joining the beta, the download delta from the beta to the final release will be minimal.
