[HOT] Problems with bookmarks and iD

2016-11-16 Thread John Gordon

Hi

Not sure where to report these.

Bookmarks-- when I'm mapping I usually bookmark the location to which I
want to return. The OSM bookmarks now return me to the home page of OSM
although the correct url for the page shows up in the request. This
seems to be a problem specific to OSM-- my other book marks work fine.

iD-- While using iD both for lines and areas the cursor skips forward if
I pause during drawing to scroll on the page.

On an older issue --is there any indication when the HOT export tool
will be fixed?

Hi,

It took me a while, but based on all the input we got for the Local
Communities Panel at State of the Map Brussels, I wrote a diary [1] entry
on building local mapping communities. I focused on the stuff the people
who couldn't make it to SotM contributed.

It has two main subjects:
- sharing what has (or hasn't) worked for us
- stuff that the global community could really help us with

Even though I got some positive feedback at the diary page and on twitter
[2], I'm afraid something like this will have very little impact unless we
follow up on it.

At the Local Chapters congress during SotM Brussels, it was quite clear
that a lot of people did have the energy to keep stuff like this visible.
But where are you now? How can we keep working together?

For the sharing experience part, I suppose we should build in the wiki.
For the needed features, I think we need to be able to make some
propositions as some sort of group. And for that, we'd need some kind of
channel. Any suggestions?

[HOT] Explaining unusual priority setting for MSF Masisi tasks on the tasking manager

2016-11-16 Thread Pete Masters
Hi all, hope you are all well...

Just want to explain why task 2328 [1 ]
is set to high priority on the tasking manager.

Usually, I don't set any Missing Maps projects higher than medium unless
there is an urgent operational need from MSF. This one is slightly
different. We are trialing DG's +Vivid service [2
] (and
thanks to DG for the free trial) as a solution to where there is no
coverage in bing on a large scale. This rural area of Masisi was pretty
much unmapped until now.

Originally, the trial was for a few months, but with the yellow fever
outbreak in Kinshasa and Hurricane Matthew, the project (rightly) got
bumped down the list. We now need to wrap this up as our last extension for
access to +Vivid is coming to an end. So, I have graduated it (and one more
like it) to high priority - just thought I should explain as I realise this
bumps other people's projects down the home page.. Thanks for bearing with
us!

And, a huge thanks to all of you that have contributed already. Please feel
free to jump in if you have time!

Cheers,

Pete

Re: [HOT] OpenStreetMap data, good and bad

2016-11-16 Thread john whelan
JOSM on a USB stick needs to be set up. It involves JOSM, JAVA and a
browser being installed on the USB stick with some software to make it all
stick together so JOSM can run from the USB stick and the remote control
made to work. Perhaps Mike or Jo have the instructions lying around
somewhere, I seem to recall them being on the JOSM site.

The untagged ways aren't a big deal, it's just someone sitting at a
computer and adding tags, provided some else doesn't remove them first.
Duplicated ways JOSM can handle these in an automated way, they're just
indicators of data quality more than anything else.

2016-11-16 Thread Douglas Ssebaggala
Thanks, great feedback,

The untagged ways and duplicated nodes are a common scenario, it's great
that there's such discoveries that can be made. Perhaps there could be a
documentation on these recent common mistakes on the wiki, so that the
local and new mappers can avoid and correct these.

JOSM pre-loaded USB drives are handy for any mapathon, will share all this
info with organisers of geoweek activities.
