Re: [HOT] Using a pen tablet for mapping input
I have been using a Wacom Intuos CTL-490 (probably the cheapest Wacom available, around USD110 here) combined with JOSM and its FastDraw plugin for over a year now. All of this in Ubuntu(Gnome) 16.04. They work great together, specially if you want to map forests, woods, reservoirs, riverbanks and any other large polygon. Take into consideration that you will have to tune the preferences of the FastDraw plugin to balance node density and shape quality. You do not want to make something with an excesive number of nodes but at the same time you want to take advantage of the level of detail that the pen alows you to get. Hope this helps you. Re: [HOT] Chile Eathquake alerts
Thanks Harry. We have been asking Wille to create tasks as we see the need. There is no problem with the contributions of HOT volunteers since we almost didn't have buildings in the area, and they can also contribute with smaller roads, tracks, landuses, etc. In the past the data has been used for emergecies in the country by the army, some sanitary authorities and NGOs, but we can certainly do a better work at making potential users aware of its existence and how to use it in an easier way. Re: [HOT] Chile Eathquake alerts
Hello Pierre, Wille Marcel gently created a couple of tasks for Coquimbo (the capital of the region that suffered some tsunami flooding on the lower parts of the city) and Illapel (an important town near the epicentre of the earthquake and many of the aftershocks). I think that we will be working on this region at least during the next couple of days, specially starting tomorrow once we get more information on where the destruction is bigger (it looks like the area between Illapel and Ovalle is the most affected by the quake, and all the coastal area between La Serena and Concón by the Tsunami). [HOT] State of the Map LatAm 2015
Dear All, Today we officially announced the first State of the Map LatAm. We will host this conference between September 4th and 6th, in Santiago de Chile. As many people asked in Buenos Aires, the State of the Map LatAm will take place in the days just before the AbreLatam (7th-8th) and the ConDatos (9th-10th) two of the biggest Open Data events in the continent. So many people can take advantage of their scholarship programs. We will still be providing scholarships for entry tickets and accomodations in Santiago. The Call for Proposals will be open until July 3th. You can get more information in http://sotm.openstreetmap.cl/en and http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/State_of_the_Map_Latam_2015 Or responding to this message. Dear Russell, Nicolas and the rest of the community, Thank you all for your concern. The area affected by the fire is mapped in OSM at a basic level (street names and some footways), it may be of help to include some more footways and building traces in the affected hills ( http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=17/-33.05933/-71.61009).
