I have wished the same many times, basically every time I use this tool! Maybe a compromise would be to use a polygonal lasso tool. Something like this is already implemented for masking, I guess some code could be reused. Sorry, my coding knowledge dates from last century, I'm no help

I take many nature landscape panoramas in which most features are not straight like buildings. So when I want to remove CPs, the rectangle selection (Ctrl + right click) is unhandy, as I have to draw many rectangles to erase points on, say, a single tree. If there was a circular brush tool to
