It happened to me today.
I had to rmmod and blacklist nouveau and then it works like a charm.
Maybe you can try to blacklist the module on the boot command line with
nouveau.blackist=yes

I bought a new Dell XPS 15 Laptop with Intel Core i5-2410M and NVIDIA
GeForce GT 525M 1GB graphics with Optimus
I tried Fedora (both 32 bit and 64 bit) and also Ubuntu, but neither of
them would even boot into the Live CD..

Same thing happens when using nVidia cards. It means that the sound card
embedded in the graphics card (HDMI sound) is turned off and the kernel
module complains.
Is not a major issue at the moment i think

I noticed a strange behavior on my Acer TimelineX 4820TG.
I have a boot script selecting which graphic card to use (Intel or ATI),
through vga_switcheroo.
Whenever I use Intel graphic card I have error messages regarding my audio
card:
hda-intel: spurious response 0x0:0x0, last cmd=0x
