+1 to that, I just traveled to and fro Boston for HackMIT 2018 and tired
doing that. But found the tickets to be much expensive then regular round
trips. Turns out organizers of HackMIT even refused to compensate people
who used such ways and claimed more money.

Hi Folks,


I am the "SugarLabs" person Jaskirat will be visiting when he comes to Southern 
California for a few days on his way to the east coast. However if any of 
you will be in town during that time (Oct 15-17) we could have a get-together 
at my house and he could meet more of us! Please think about it... maybe I 
should put a note on the IAEP list? Oh... OK, it looks like I just did!


As for ticket prices... most airlines are now pricing tickets by the particular 
flight you take. We have found that buying a one-way ticket on one airline for 
the first direction and a one-way ticket on another for the return can often 
save money. For example, today I booked tickets for Ed and I to visit family in 
Texas at Christmas. By combining the lowest priced outbound ticket on SouthWest 
and our inbound back to LA on United I was able to save $300 to $500 on the 2 
tickets!


I'm not the anonymous person who bought the return ticket to India, but I did 
buy the ticket from SFO to BUR it cost just $61!


Hope some of you will be in the LA area and we can get together!

It turns out this motion is not necessary in the end:

Jaskirat Singh's Washington, DC to New Delhi, India return flight (November ~9, 
more than 4 weeks after he arrives on October 10) is indeed substantially more 
expensive than general policy allows, as open-jaw 
tickets<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-jaw_ticket> are dramatically more 
expensive than round-trip flights in general, in this case as compared to the 
intended GSoC India to San Francisco round-trip flight.

However, the DC-to-India flight was fully paid for by an anonymous donor today, 
who prefers to remain anonymous.

Please all give thanks to the donor, understanding that they prefer to remain 
anonymous, as this will not be a repeat occurrence,

budget for GSoC summit travel exceeds $3000, we can apply Jaskirat's and my 
share of the GSoC mentor stipend to cover the overrun.

This is somewhat timely as tickets need to be purchased.

 reasons isn’t permitted, and if that was the case here, I would’ve declined
 without even asking you. The planned meetings with other collaborators
 meant it was at least potentially project-related, so that’s why I checked.

 additional travel with him unless/until you tell me otherwise.
