In my opinion, there was a lack of consensus for the first communication

Quite simply, in the second exchange, Tony asked for the oversight board to
give their opinion. Since it was not apparent that we had consensus, I used
the motion mechanism to confirm that we had a majority agreeing to our
answer to his question. In both cases, I asked Adam, our liaison, to handle
the communication with Tony.

Sure Lionel - what is the voting delay? I actually was waiting but the

2017-09-15 Thread Laura Vargas
Walter,

I guess my question was not clear. My question is about the procedure to
address legal issues to Conservancy.

The procedure you (SLOB) follow the first time you want to address
Conservancy was to just ask Adam (Sugar Labs rep to SFC) to make a question
to Tony.

The procedure you (SLOB) follow the second time was to ask SLOBs to approve
an answer t (Sugar Labs rep to SFC) to make a question to Tony.

I thank in advance to please specify, why do you follow two different
procedures for the same process?

Regards,

Laura

Re: [IAEP] [Sugar-devel] [SLOBS] SLOB motion

2017-06-03 Thread Samson Goddy
Hello all,

It is more than 24hrs since walter requested this motion should be
seconded, so that voting can begin.
Sorry for thinking this way, but is it that the community don't want to
support the Bordeaux trip at all?

This is the second time i am making a proposal. First, was for me and Ibiam
which our sole purpose was to travel together to represent Sugarlabs and
possible connect to sponsors for future SL workshops in Nigeria. That was
declined because some people feel we are traveling first class trip.

Is this how SL tend to grow further by not supporting members for outreach
programs? Please bare in mind i am just 17, i don't have a steady stream of
money or income as most of you do. This community became my responsibility
ever since i became part of the board members. Of course SL money should be
use to promote Sugar which i think this proposal is doing.

I want to simply know if i will have some support from the community while
trying to promote Sugar in Bordeaux. Please bare in mind, a community can
never grow if we cannot have a good marketing strategy. it is not all about
maintaining our project but by promoting it.

If board members cannot feed themselves in their own country, and
additionally Sugar Labs is being asked to create my-favorite-hotel in
my-favorite-neighborhood welfare handouts for its own board members in
their own countries, we have a far deeper long-term problem on our hands
here, that will unfortunately but certainly not be resolved before June

Be It Resolved: we now need to move on.

$600(195,000 naira) will be helpful judging by the current exchange rate,
compare to $500.

My request was 260,000 naira, getting up to 195,000 would be nice.

But one question Adam, what if i get the visa and spend higher than what
was proposed due to the naira gaining rate towards the dollar, supposedly
what was approved was $600(195,000 naira as of today exchange rate)?

Shouldn't we agree on using the Naira as the currency here, since it is
going to be reimbursement? Because it might happen that tomorrow, if the
approved money is $600(195,000) went back to $1 = 170 naira. Right now the
rate is $1 = 325 naira. So the $600 might turn up useless if this happens.

When you told me you came to Nigeria, i believe the rate was $1 = 190
naira, that was why things was cheap in Nigeria compare 2017 $1 = 325
naira.

So this should be consider when trying to lower the money from $800 to any
amount. Because i mentioned the amount i need in naira which was 260,000 i
didn't care about the dollars or euro because it might be $400 or even $300
if the economy turn worst.

So 260,000 Nigerian naira is the total amount of my motion as of today.

Humbly Disagree.

The motion needs to be rewritten specifically so that Samson can:

(1) Move forward with applying for his French visa w/o delay.

(2) Obtain up to $500 to that specific end.

On financial matters especially — it's important that we build trust, and
avoid appearances of board members sending financial favors to each other — *by

2017-06-03 Thread Walter Bender
Please excuse the top post.

I'd like to bring some clarity to the discussion of this motion. As most of
you know, Sugar Labs is a member project of the Software Freedom
Conservancy. The Conservancy has well-established guidelines for travel,
and the travel plans in the proposal accompanying the motion are well
within these guidelines. So while I appreciate Adam's help in reducing the
costs of Samson's trip, I think those efforts are a distraction from the
motion itself, which, at its essence is a proposal to attend the Scratch
conference as an invited speaker on behalf of Sugar Labs. I have confidence
that with Adam's help, the costs may well be less than the < US$800 stated
in the motion, but what about the motion? Is there someone who will second
it so we can vote?

regards.
