The functionality is constructed to be a general purpose mapping and modelling package that can serve most projects within that area. It is also a programming environment for geoscientists and others. As a new and developing package it covers today the central elements of 3D modelling and visualization. The 3D graphics is based on the freeware VTK (visualization toolkit) from Kitware Inc. The scripting language is based on Tcl. The system is sponsored by Norsk Hydro Oil Research Division. They were looking for a powerfull and flexible modelling and visualization tool that could be tuned and suited to projects through a programmable menu interface based on a standarized scripting language. The commands of Geocap are mixed with the scripting commands of Tcl. All the logics and programming efficiency of Tcl are utilized to get a powerful menu and application interface. ============================== YKA
