Gerhard,
The X'A0' opcode provided various VS APL Assist functions.
I don't believe that IBM ever documented it in any publication distributed to
customers.

John,
Try specifying TASK on the ENQ and DEQ requests.

As has been already pointed out, usage during normal processing is minimal,
but perhaps the most critical sizing point is the cycles used during a freeze.
Insufficient weighting given to the K LPAR (and/or the ANTMAIN/ANTAS* tasks
set too low) may elongate the freeze time.

Short answer:
Yes, it needs to be Extended Format... which has a pre-req of SMS-Managed.
As Ted mentioned in one of the replies, a non-EF dataset does indeed have a
limit of 65k tracks.

from the DSS perspective. The bottleneck is very likely on that side rather
than the zSeries I/O subsystem.

Hi all, hopefully an easy one here.
Can anyone confirm whether or not Syncsort uses CFW? I know DF/Sort does
but I'm not sure about Sync.
Thanks,

Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience getting 74.8 data out of a DMX3/4? The
only requirements I am aware of is the 5775 'Enginuity' code and RMF option
ESS enabled. I have both of these in place, but still no stats.
Is there a setting required on the box (i.e. similar to an HDS 'mode'?)
Thanks Lizette,
Sorry I had a typo in my original post. The code level is 5772. The
information I had with this code level indicated that these functions would be
supported.
I'm not aware of any RMF requirements as they work fine with HDS subsystems.
Thanks again,
JB
Regardless of the fact that he lost track of the subject, It was a great

I was responding only to the idea that CICS was introduced on the S/390.
As for the idea that CICS was the first centralized security system, that is
obviously absurd.
It can be argued that with its internal security features, CICS provided the
first secure transaction processing environment.
You are correct, which brings back my original argument, which I must now
clarify.
The maximum track size support by the ECKD architecture is 16,777,215.
Within a track, the maximum data block size is 65,535.
So, what is the maximum capacity of a logical device supported by the ECKD
of the associated
inter-block gaps.

ECKD architecture provides for a maximum track (head) number of 65535.
It also provides for a maximum track capacity of 16777215 bytes.
All things considered, the maximum configuration for a single addressable
device is 2**56 bytes - 2*32 bytes.
The number of records per track is limited to
I don't think that is the case anymore. I do know that the feds changed the
law so that the SSN can not appear on a license. However, I know that SC and
NJ require a SSN to get a drivers license.

Ron,
The issue a not the card number but is rather all of the personal information
(i.e., social security numbers, transaction histories, etc.) which can be used
to establish identity.
Replacing cards is easy. Repairing damaged credit is another thing all
together.
