Try going to ISPF 3.4 and using the F command beside the dataset.
I believe that works.

I didn't think of that! I tried it, and it said it finished processing, but it
didn't free any space up. See my next post for furthur details.

After I sent my original post, I thought that if several members were updated,
they were probably stored in the new extents. Since you can't do a compress,
which would mean that once you go into extents, you can never free them, unless
as you say you reallocate the dataset and copy it to the
