I've been making help-style web pages since about 2000, when my 5-year
old daughter pushed me to learn a bit about html. A small group of us
started a web server running on MVS at work, creating MVS doc web pages
with things like JCL examples, etc. that we as sysprogs could point

Hi all,
We'll I'm a little embarrassed. I was just told offline about a link that
Lionel Dyck posted here last October that described the coming of the calamity

a side note – the creators of that FAQ weren’t even

things have not changed much over the past decades ( I'm not saying
I want to add, make sure you're using the new, from 2.3 izusvr1 task, the
z/osmf folks moved configuration and data files to new directories
the server no longer uses /var/ for configuration or logging, everything that
you customize is in /global/zomsf/

The files are untagged. Tagging them as binary would be helpful as I plan to
use them with Git.

Hi Cheryl and all,
As a fellow developerWorks user, I understand your frustration. I
believe that a lot of the developerWorks content was migrated to IBM
Community ( https://www.ibm.com/community/z/ ), so try checking there
for what you need. Otherwise, I'm tracking down a contact for IBM

About the only thing that is a bit squirrely is that the IZUPRM asks if you are
using a SYMBOLIC _HOME to use it.
In my case my JAVA_HOME is JAVA_HOME('/REL240/usr/lpp/java/J8.0_64') instead
of J7.1_64

The answer on how the aliases are maintained is unknown but this is what the
man page says (below). I did test it and using -X and -I works in both
directions. There are no additional files in the USS directory so perhaps they
are including the z/OS PDS directory info along with the load
Carmen - I would love to but there are NO LOG Files
Here is the TOP of the SVR1 proc

Steve, Check your /global/zosmf/logs directory there's some debug info there

With z/OS 2.2/2.3/2.4 I have the -X option which supports the use of cp for

Does anyone know if the -I option has been made available via PTF for 2.2

Hey Listers
Thank you for that Cheryl. It is indeed a worrying time when this happens.

I thought it used to be normal behavior for the enqueue to be held until

This seems like normal behavior to me. As long as the first job is running, the
enq is held. Once the job ends, the enqueue is released.
As of z/OS 2.2(?) there is a "enque demotion" that will reduce the enque to shr
once the need for old is removed.

Well, at least ~one~ person actually addressed his question! I was beginning
to think I was going to have to research it myself, because no one else seemed
to want to answer and I was beginning to feel a sort of corporate embarrassment

This could make a difference.

There are many ways to skin a cat.
You can use LDAP. You can have looong user id's within LDAP. You can
type anything in JCL (especially in comments or DD *).
You also should distinguish between z/OS and RACF (TSS, ACF2), and JCL
and JES2.
However for security you have to keep

No. Not nowadays.
However if you are using z990 or older, then it may be needed.
