OP asked literally about 'z/OS version'. Several fine answers followed. But if OP is actually interested in something like 'maintenance level', then the answer is that nothing will tell you that unless you have zapped some literal into a user-modifiable area such as (for example) NUCLEUS. We do that as discussed in another recent thread. If you do that, then you can examine your own literal a very precise answer.
