Is this for users, "power users", or programmer/developers? For some of those
groups, SyncSort (not sure of the new names yet) or DFSORT provide pretty good
reporting capabilities and great performance.

produce multi-level reports with very little code. And, there are still
people that know how to write RPGII, although most of them will be in
VSE shops were it is still used a lot. And, it's cheap.
